David has been a physical therapist and health system administrator for over 25 years. In addition to his Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy, he has an Education degree from George Washington University as well as an MBA from University of Baltimore. His senior living career began over 5 years ago working in both the Baltimore and Charlottesville market. David commutes from Crozet, where he lives with his wife, Julie, and 2 daughters. He played soccer and swam in college and cheers for the Maryland Terrapins, except for when his wife is around (UVA 98’) and can give a heartfelt Wahoowa at a moment’s notice.

HEATHER CLARK
Director of Sales
Heather Clark joins the team as Director of Sales. She had an extensive career as the Territory Manager for WW of Central Virginia. Most recently, she shifted her focus to senior care realizing she truly has a passion for the Senior Population. She is excited to assist individuals with the process of transitioning to an assisted living community, which sometimes can feel very overwhelming for the family. Her and her husband, Lance, raised two talented, successful daughters, who continue to make them proud. They lived the last 21 years in Crozet, Virginia and most recently downsized, empty nested, and moved to Zion Crossroads, to enjoy more free time. Heather loves to walk, hike in our beautiful mountains, read, sit on her patio, and discovered a love of cooking as a result of the pandemic. She most recently had the opportunity to help a local winery harvest grapes for their Rose and Viognier blends, developing a greater respect for the wonderful Virginia wineries. Fun fact – Heather was born in Burlington, Iowa, has lived in 8 states, Michigan and Virginia twice.

AMBER SHOULTZ
Director of Wellness
Amber is from Orange County, VA. She has worked in long-term care for 10 years. Through her experience in long-term care, she has grown to have a profound passion for working with the senior population. Amber’s background includes clinical nursing, dialysis, and most recently a skilled unit nurse manager. Amber enjoys working at The Blake at Charlotteville because it is a new experience for her, and she is passionate about lifelong learning. Through her time at The Blake at Charlottesville, she has rediscovered her love for working seniors. Amber is a proud wife and mother of three children. In her free time, she enjoys supporting her children in their sporting and band events. Amber states she is her children’s number one fan. A fun fact about Amber is that she is a very competitive individual and loves to learn new things. Amber is currently enrolled in Nursing School to complete her long-term goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. Please join us in giving Amber a warm Blake welcome!

SHERI YORK
Director of Business Operations
Sheri York serves as the Director of Business Operations for The Blake at Charlottesville. Originally from New Hampshire, Sheri made her move to the Charlottesville area in August of 2018. She has fifteen years of experience as a Deputy Finance Officer in Municipal Government. She ventured on a new journey when her heart pulled her to senior living. Sheri loves getting to know the residents, hearing about their lives, and learning from their experiences. When asked about her favorite part of working for The Blake, she says, “I love working at The Blake. It is such a positive work environment. Everyone is respected and valued. We have the best employees and leaders.” As a mother of five and grandma to three granddaughters, Sheri enjoys travelling and spending time with her family.

JAMEA MAUPIN
Assistant Director of Sales
Jamea is a Virginia-born family-oriented mom of an 8-year-old daughter named Aria. She enjoys cooking for her very large family in her free time as well as spending weekends with her Nana. She has over 10 years of experience in banking and 15 in customer service and sales. Her grandmother, in more recent years, had been moved around to multiple nursing homes and, as the main person who oversaw this process, she understands how difficult the moving process can be for families as they complete the work for each transition. Being the go-to person in her family in regards to care-related decisions made her want to help make this process as easy as possible for other families, so that they have one less burden to bear. Her passion for helping others and achieving goals motivated her to pursue a career with those who have more life experience, and she enjoys hearing the wisdom of the residents as she works at The Blake.

JEREMY BOYKIN
Assistant Director of Wellness
Jeremy is from Madison, Virginia. He served 12 years in the United States Army, serving multiple campaigns in Iraq. He was stationed with the 101st Airborne Division through much of his time in service, but served in multiple locations such as Ft. Sill Oklahoma, Ft. Irwin California, and Camp Casey Korea. Upon exiting the Army, he found a passion in the medical field and received Eergency Medical Services training. This passion ultimately lead him into nursing. He has a background in emergency medicine, skilled nursing, and long-term care, and is a Licensed Practical Nurse. He spends his free time hunting, fishing, and watching sports.

Carol Basich
Director of Activities
Carol is originally from Southern California, she moved to Charlottesville Va. in 2020 to live near family. Carol has worked in senior living for 5 years and discovered a passion for activities. During her father’s own battle with Alzheimer’s, she decided she wanted a career in assisted living. Her father’s community had a birthday party for him, and that is when she knew she wanted to work in the activity department. Carol's goal is to bring that same joy to seniors in her community. The Blake residents are not just residents to Carol they are her father, her mother, her grandfather, and her grandmother. Carol believes it is her pleasure to serve The Blake and she thoroughly enjoys her work. When not working Carol is busy having fun and enjoying life with her husband and 4 sons. She is still adjusting to having actual weather and sometimes longs for days of sunny and 75.

BRITTANY KLEIN
WALK WITH ME COORDINATOR
Brittany is from from Appomattox, Virginia. She previously worked as a direct service professional for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, and it was at this position where she realized that she had a passion for healthcare. She started as an activity assistant at The Blake and worked her way up to the position of Walk With Me Coordinator. With a strong sense of compassion and joy fueling her to be the very best she can be, she is constantly putting a smile on the residents' faces. When she walks into the room, they already know that they're in for something fun! The way that the residents look out for her as if she was a part of their family reminds her of the great relationship she has with her own grandparents. When she isn't working, Brittany likes watching movies and going anywhere that has karaoke. She is a big fan of theatre, and she likes to go see musicals and plays every so often. She always strives to make people smile and laugh with silly jokes, and everyone at The Blake knows that she is "very punny!

KELSIE SHORT
DIRECTOR OF MEMORY CARE
Kelsie Short came to know the true importance of a comprehensive Assisted Living community during her grandmother’s own battle with dementia, and this understanding led to her own personal passion for working with seniors. She has worked within the healthcare field for over 8 years, both in direct clinical care and therapeutics. She is a licensed Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, as well as a Certified Nurse Assistant. Kelsie received her bachelor’s degree from Radford University in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism, with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation and a Minor in Psychology. Kelsie recently received her master’s degree in Behavioral Sciences at Liberty University in the area of Developmental Psychology. She has worn many hats throughout her employment at The Blake including Concierge, Director of Activities, and most recently, Director of Recruitment and Retention.
Kelsie was born and raised in Greene County, Virginia, where she continues to make her home. When Kelsie is not busy at The Blake, she enjoys spending time with her family and participating in outdoor activities.

PAT WELLMAN
DIRECTOR OF FACILITY MANAGEMENT
Pat Wellman is the Director of Facilities Management at The Blake at Charlottesville. Pat is originally from West Virginia. He has over 40 years of maintenance experience. In addition to his skilled handiwork, he also possesses a friendly personality and enjoys serving The Blake residents every day. He is a full-time maintenance man and a part time farmer. Pat resides in Louisa County with his wife and his many farm animals. In his free time, Pat plays bluegrass music. He has his own band and is looking forward to playing music for The Blake.

JABARI WADLINGTON
DIRECTOR OF DINING SERVICES
Originally from Los Angeles, California, Executive Chef Jabari Wadlington has always had a passion for the industry and for food. While pursing an aeronautical engineering degree from Tuskegee University, he was lured into the culinary world and went on to study the culinary arts at Johnson and Wales in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he learned to develop his own unique style and flair. Jabari continued with his career at Virginia restaurants and hotels including: Goodstone Inn Luxury Hotel, The Wine Kitchen, and Travinia Italian Kitchen. He also has the experience of opening up two restaurants in the Charlottesville Area: Shadwell's and Farm Bell Kitchen. Working under many influential leaders provided Jabari with his own style, a volume of knowledge in gastronomy, and expertise in whipping up farm-to-table creations. His mentors include Chef Tom Wolfe in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Virginia’s top award-winning Chef Tarver King. Jabari’s own culinary philosophy and passion reflects the growing trend towards a healthier and down-to-earth lifestyle. Jabari is eager to bring his talents to The Blake at Charlottesville and elevate the culinary experience to a wholesome new level.
